Hello, my lovelies! It’s been a while so I’m coming back at you with a new travel post! A couple months ago I took a proper vacation to see friends in Las Cruces and Austin. I hadn’t taken a vacation longer than three or four days since high school so get ready for a shit ton of vacay adventures headed your way!
My first stop was Las Cruces, New Mexico; I headed down to attend a friends’ graduation from nursing school and to checkout the city. I wouldn’t suggest LC as your first introduction to New Mexico but the architecture and most importantly location made up for everything. The White Sands National Monument is 50 minutes way in Alamogordo; visiting the powdery white hills is a must while in NM! The national monument is the largest landscape of gypsum sand reaching 145,344 acres with dunes 60ft high. White Sands is one the most beautiful sites I’ve seen in all my travels; I think you’ll agree after you check out the gallery below!
Pro tips:
- Walk lightly, the dunes reach up to 60ft. and taking a tumble is quite easy to do.
- Arrive an hour or so before the sunset; the weather is cooler and the sun falling behind the hills are breath taking!
- Local wildlife include Giant Beetles that stealthily pop up when you’re least expecting it. These things were huge, more like Scarabs from those Mummy movies but with little legs!
- Sunglasses are a must, the wind in the evening can be brutal so take care to protect your eyes from sand.
- Checkout this Boyz II Men video to pump you up before your visit!
So that’s it my lovelies, I hope you enjoyed this post on White Sands! What do you think, are you itching to plan a visit? Have you been? What did you love most? Lets chat!
